"The genesis of the brand sounds almost like a fairytale. In 1992, co-founder Daymond John mortgaged his house in Queens and turned it into a mini factory from which he and his colleagues produced hip-hop clothing. Starting with 80 hats, it quickly grew into a huge clothing company and success followed. At its peak in 1998, FUBU had annual global sales of over US$350 million and established itself as the world hip-hop brand that it still is today.

It is well known that FUBU stands for urban and street wear. The brand has already won several awards, including two Congressional Awards and the Online Hip-Hop Award. In 1997, LL Cool J wore a FUBU hat in a commercial and incorporated the phrase "For US, By US" into his rap lyrics, which gave the brand an enormous boost. As if that wasn't hip-hop enough, FUBU founded a rap record label in 2001, whose two compilation albums each made it onto the Billboard charts.
